A few weeks ago, my friend and fellow photog Jamie, messaged me saying that she had an inquiry about wedding photography for a date she was already booked and she was sending the couple my way. The bride-to-be did contact me, and we got them booked for their wedding in Green Forest this May, however it wasn't until I met up with them this past weekend for a little E-sesh that we realized we were practically related--well, not really, but only separated by like 6 degrees ;)

You know how you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes? Well, then I'm sure you know how excited I was when I saw these :) (And, yes, they'll be sporting Converse on the Big Day too!!)

Backstory: Melissa mentioned that long-stemmed roses are really not their thing...well, selective spot coloring really isn't mine...but sometimes you just gotta say, "What the heck?!"

Melissa & Clay, it was so great to meet you two! You make a super couple and I can't wait for your big day!

This past weekend, I encountered perhaps the most awesome cupcakes EVER. (Because "delectable" would have been an understatement ;) If you live locally, definitely check out Exceptional Sweetness and see what all she has to offer!

We had Chocolate cupcakes with chocolate ganache topped with a white chocolate heart, Red Velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting, and Vanilla Bean cupcake with whipped vanilla buttercream frosting to choose from....

ALL MADE FROM SCRATCH by the way....it was so hard to choose...so decided I'd try the Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting because I loved the whimsical curlycue edible hearts decorating it :)

SO. GOOD. Truly a euphoric confection...

For several years now I've been dreaming of a brand of photography that caters solely to women and young ladies. My husband doesn't seem to understand why I wish to "specialize" in this area of the art--and we won't go there ;) -- but to me, working with women and young ladies is SO rewarding. Maybe it's because I relate to them 100%...I understand her need to see herself as beautiful, talented and successful--and yes, beautiful is #1. I have a hunch that if you polled a million girls and a million women and asked them what their favorite compliment of all time is...they'll tell you it has something to do with "You look so pretty/beautiful/amazing!"

For a short time, I was once a personal consultant for Mary Kay...and I think her mantra of "When you look good, you feel good" has always stuck with me and helped me to define this area of my photography as well. More often than not, as women and young ladies, we see our flaws...our imperfections, you know, our pimples, cellulite and uneven features. And we all know these really aren't inherently "who we are," however, with the powers that be telling us they are imperfect, we take that to heart and (whether conscious of it or not), do indeed, let it impact how we see ourselves.

Photography has given me the opportunity to refocus women and young ladies on their true beauty...the fact that they are, in and of themselves, beautiful. By capturing the fun, the playful, the inner femme fatale, the diva, the sweetheart, the serious, the studious, the crack-up, the lovable, the tom-boy, the girly girl, THESE are the reflections of who women and young ladies really are and these are the images that remind them of how beautiful.

This year for Christmas, we made homemade candles :)
We took glass jars that would normally be thrown into the landfill (olive jars, spaghetti sauce jars, baby food jars, jelly jars, old candle jars, pickle jars, etc.), and filled them with a little bit of sand, added the wicks, wax and either Christmas tree or cedar scent, and then decorated with Uppercase Living designs :)

I didn't take a picture, but we used brown wine bags from the liqueur store to wrap them in with red paper tags--totally recyclable packaging :)) It was so fun and rather easy...kids would really enjoy this project--or kids at heart ;)

OMG! For the past year, I've been falling in love with the pin-up style boudoir...it's fun, playful, glamorous and sexy--a combination you just cannot go wrong with! This past fall, I shot a custom session based off of Lady B and her hubby's shared love of racing. (Check out those images here!) This Christmas, Lady L and I had a fun time creating some fabulous vintage-mod pin-ups she surprised the hubs with ;)

While I was in the studio the other day, I called Jessi to see if J was up for some pics...

He sported his new Hog hat from Yarntastic Roots, his new red Toms, and his new snowman hoodie from Auntie Terri :)

We also tried to get a little festive with some tinsel...but J did not like the tinsel ;)

Becca & Josh | Magnolia Hill

When I first met B&J this past summer over lunch at the House of Pizza, I knew I was really going to like them...a LOT :) Not sure if it was because of Becca's choice of wedding colors (purple and silver) or because Josh was a rocker like my hubby, or just because they were both so cute, fun and totally in love, but somehow I just had a feeling ♥

Becca & Josh were married November 12th, at Magnolia Hill in Little Rock.

Awesome cakes were made by Cakes by Sam in Jacksonville.
DJ services provided by Central Arkansas Entertainment.

When the ceremony begins, the groom and his best man make a surprise appearance by paddling up to the site in a boat!

Um, yes, the bride is picked up in a carriage to be escorted with her father through a wooded trail to the ceremony site!

As if the whole gorgeous ceremony wasn't Robin Hood and Maid Marion-ish enough, after the kiss they get to release DOVES!!!

The reception is held up the hill on the patio and stone courtyard...

After the last dance, everyone gets to watch a firework grand finale on the lawn. I'm serious.

And then, the wedding bell chimes...and they make their exit through a sea of bubbles, to get away in a 1938 Packard--with more fireworks :)

And just like that, they're off! The new Mr.&Mrs. disappear into the evening on their way to change names and Facebook satuses and live happily ever after ♥

Oh my gosh...what a TOTALLY pleasant fall shoot this was with Jesseca! The last time we met up, it was 106 degrees outside, and you wouldn't know it from her pics, but we were all dripping with sweat and practically melting! As compared to seasons past, our fall to-do is not quite making par:

But, we kinda had a get-together of sorts when family were visiting last month. J got to meet his great-great Gramma...

And his great-Auntie Sandy...

And he was like, um, that guitar is way smaller than my dad's and actually looks my size!

We got to hang out and play in dad's new shed, I mean shop ;)

And we have taken trips to Little Rock 700 times...

(yeah, I'd never make it with Nat'l Geographic :P )

Aaaaand, we did kinda play around last night for some of those cute fall pics ;)

Could I have lucked out with a more suitable fall-themed, Halloween post? I don't think so :)

Shortly after Luke popped the question (come to find out, in the form of an extra verse to a song he wrote for Sarah!!), Sarah contacted me and we scheduled a shoot for their engagement photos. I LOVE when engagements are done around the time that you actually get engaged because we are capturing the new emotions that you are feeling and it is truly reflected in your images. ((That being said, if you're a guy wanting to pop the question this holiday season, message me for details on an amazing surprise proposal shoot!))

So, we met up at Sarah's parent's house and enjoyed the sunset with a walk in the woods, pumpkin carving and warm campfire :)

Sarah is a fellow photo enthusiast as well, so I brought along my vintage cams to play around with...good times :)

A little story time in the tent...Luke was reading P&P with a British accent!! Hysterical!!

Needless to say, I am beyond thrilled and can't wait to capture their big day next summer :) Congratulations you guys!!

When I first met up with Chera earlier in the year and she showed me her picture clippings of ideas she had for her dream day, I couldn't help but get a little excited as one of the images she had was one I had saved a year before :) Barn/ranch weddings are such a fun idea because you get to contrast the glitz and glam of the wedding day against the casual, laid-back outdoor setting. Perfect for a spring or fall outdoor wedding in Arkansas :)

These two were sooooo in love...and in the real kind of way. You know, like, they laugh, they be silly, they dance, have fun and enjoy life. It's always a real treat getting to shoot weddings that are such a celebration of this kind of love ♥

Chera had rockstar aunts that coordinated her wedding from the decor to the food and awesome cousins who made the boutonnieres and bridesmaid bouquets. (I seriously think they should all quit their day jobs.)

Timing couldn't have been more perfect for an evening wedding...the lighting was just gorgeous!

They danced. The night. Away. (Word is the party didn't shut down until 2AM!)

I'm so excited to share the following images with you! It's not often that I'm granted permission to share images from the boudoir (for obvious reasons!!) so when this hot mama said I can share these, I was a bit beside myself :)

Backstory:
B. and her hubby are race car drivers. And for years, as she saw her husband's winning mustang surrounded by grid girls and pit babes, she thought to herself, "I'm going to do that one day!" Well her one day finally came after I met her at a local wedding industry convention (jklol!!! but we did meet at a wedding vendor meeting--she's also an event coordinator!! ;) She asked if I shoot boudoir...and if I'd shoot her with her and her husband's cars. I'm not sure if I squealed or just ecstatically responded with a professional "of course", but we got together and here's what we came up with...

To say that I am excited about Pin Up Boudoir's this year would be an understatement. I have 10 different bookmarks on my browser with ideas and examples I'm gathering to totally make this an awesome and unique experience!! I'm actually shooting on-location in a few weeks...a hot-rod garage style boudoir and I can't wait!!

I wanted to share with you just a few ideas on outfits/themes :)

I would definitely start with thrift stores...look for dresses as well as skirt and top separates. Pencil skirts, button up blouses, cardigans, swing skirts, heels, jewelry, belts, scarves and hats! (It's so fun, believe me!! You'll want to make a habit out of stopping by!)

Locally, I can recommend:
The Bargain Box on Coley Drive (right off 201)
The Purple Door on the corner of Coley and College St.
Project Love on Main St in that old shopping center just north of the square
The Salvation Army on 201 North

Okay, so I know the first thing you notice is that sweet face with an almost mohawk -looking do. But I'd like to point out (via the red arrow) the cute Alphabet Table. My mother-in-law actually made this for the little guy :) Just as he was starting to get tired of his old baby toys, low and behold, he had a Level 2--For Advanced Low Crawlers And Trying-to-Stand Uppers toy patiently waiting in his room for it's turn :)

She has made these tables for several of her family friend's children, and they are one of those items that they will play with for years to come...first as a standing/balancing table, then as a climbing thing, then as a their own little stool to sit on, then as a play thing, like a barbie house or legoman fort or teacher's desk or who-knows-what!

During this fall and holiday season, I have some awesome add-ons I'm excited to offer with my print collections!

First up, the custom 5x7 folded Christmas card. I LOVE these :) They are the real deal this year, folded and all...better than Hallmark if I do say so myself ;) They even come with a fancy pearl-esque envelope. You may recognize this sweet family from this past spring when I shot Jason & Monica's wedding. Well, Monica messaged me saying that they were needing some 1st birthday pics of the baby and also a family shot as well. So we met up a few weekends ago in beautiful Ponca, Arkansas down by the Buffalo River. (I'm always amazed at how much fun stuff there is here in the Ozarks, and I've lived here all my life!)

I loved the outfits and colors Monica picked out!!

Before/After Tribute

My dear husband has mentioned to me on several occasions that I need to post a Before/After scene...you know, an image that shows and tells how sometimes my images take precedence over dinner and laundry and whatnot ;)

So, have you ever wondered what goes down after your photo shoot?? Why the heck it takes sooooooo long for me to have your images ready for viewing?!? Although I realize that a week seems like an eternity after we've had a great time during your photo session and I've teased you on Facebook, and you absolutely cannot WAIT to see all of your images, there is a LOT more that goes on behind-the-scenes when I get back to my work desk :)

Image post-production is just as fun for me as my photo shoot with you! This is where I get to be the "artist" as I edit and enhance EACH image, lovingly and meticulously, to produce a memory you will cherish forever ♥ Color balancing, shadow/highlight correction, skin touch-ups and opening closed eyes, saturation boosts, contrast adjustments and adding special effects are just a few of the many personal touches I put into each image. More often than not, a single image can take up to 10 minutes or more to get it to my liking!Here is a look at the before and after image from a recent senior session. Without the comparison, the straight-out-of-the-camera shot (on the left) really isn't too bad. (And note I'm not referring to the subject! I'm referring to the lighting and shadow/highlights!)
The first thing I do when I open the image up in Photoshop is to remove the couple stray pieces of hair. Then I touch up the face to bring the skin tone back to it's natural radiance. Then I play with the color saturation and contrast levels to give the image some punch. Final touches include detail sharpening and adding effects like texture and blur.

Each image is different and unique...it just may happen that I go through all the steps just mentioned and then decide that a particular image actually looks better in black and white! So then I go through the whole process again only creating a black and white image.So I hope this gives you a better idea of what goes on behind-the-scenes at J Beave's studio :)

I know I say it all the time, but it truly is the most amazing thing getting to watch your children grow with you! I've shot this little guy since he was in his momma's belly! We then met up for his newborn session, his four-month session, nine month, and his 1 year :) Time sure does fly, and I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to capture this cutie pie!

For the past week I have been humming this song. It's the song that Whitney sang at her sister's wedding last week. A wedding where the groom cried, the father of the bride cried, bridesmaids and guests cried, and yes, even I cried♥ It was the sweetest day...full of sweet family, friends and love♥

Courteney & Andrew were married at First Assembly of God Church in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Her hair was styled by her cousin Vanessa Peglar of Salon Contrast. Her dress is by Allure from Low's Bridal in Brinkley, Arkansas.

Courteney works at Something Blue Paperie where she had all of her invitations, programs and reception details printed. (She also had all the monogramming done there!)

After the ceremony, we snuck upstairs to allow guests to get to the reception and to keep the newlyweds from getting mobbed before group shots :) Andrew kept saying, "Let me just...I just want to look at you!"

Two and a half years ago, I met up with Shannon and Rodney for their engagement session down in Little Rock on the golf course where they met. I shot Shannon's bridals shortly thereafter and their wedding that summer. I was sooooo excited when she emailed me earlier this year saying that she would be in touch soon possibly needing a maternity shoot :)

We met up this past weekend in Eureka Springs for a fun, unique and rather warm maternity shoot! Thankfully, the springs actually kept it a little cooler so we lucked out with some super cute shots :)

Shannon and Rodney are some of the sweetest people and I can't wait to meet their new little one!!

And of course we couldn't make a trip to Eureka without enjoying the scenery ;)
After a beer at the Cathouse, we ventured across the street to this newish villa-esque looking Stonehouse. Before you enter the front door, you have to first enter the patio...as we stepped up, I gasped and said, "We have to get something and sit out here!" Anyway, it was LOVELY...and the merlot was the smoothest I've ever had (I think it was the Ferrari-Carano?!) We didn't realize how much our platter would fill us up, so we're going to go back next time for the yummy-looking chocolatey dessert--oh and more red wine :)

After a 12-hour wedding event the day before, I got up early to start making Swedish pancakes for the hungry bunch who would soon be gathering in honor of Father's day to devour pretty darn near as many pancakes as I could produce! And normally, the first batch is all throw-away...however, I'm proud to say that this time, there was only ONE discard, and only ONE expletive that came from my mouth during the whole process :) It was a hot one, so we were indoors for the most part, but we stepped out real quick to snag a few shots...

I rented a lens for the weekend and have been anxious to play with it...so, I of course pulled it out of the box when it arrived Thursday night and start shooting the field across the street--full of Queen Anne's Lace...

For the part where I am supposed to tell you my favorite thing about being with him..well I could go on and on!! When Jeremy and I met, neither one of us were looking to be in a relationship. Our relationship grew from a well established friendship! He is my very best friend, ever! We laugh together, cry together, tell stories, and genuinely enjoy being together. Jeremy is the most loving and kind person I know. He does so much for me and I would love to be able to do something, as fun as this, for him!!

As always, vacay was a little too short...but such a wonderful time. We ventured down to Panama City Beach, Florida for my sister-in-laws wedding weekend. She rented a private beach house which was so nice as we had our own private beach backyard :) We took with us no computers, set our emails to forward auto-responses (but come to find out, DSL connection issues failed to send those!) and promised we would NOT get online until we were back to work. This meant no checking emails or Facebook and all business related phone calls would be returned Tuesday. And I'll have to admit this was VERY refreshing and almost just as exhilarating as the beach! So, needless to say, I am currently re-vamping my daily routine to include less cyberspace and more real-time :)

To also keep my mind in relaxation mode, I only took with me a Kodak point-and-shoot I borrowed from my mom. I forgot how much fun the simplicity of a pocket camera can be!
